The goal of the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, an all-volunteer group, is to support cancer patients and their families who live on Hatteras Island.

The group's primary goal is to raise funds to offer financial support to patients to help them pay for medical costs not reimbursed by insurance or to pay for travel expenses for themselves and family members to medical centers for cancer treatment.

As a secondary goal, the group aims to provide other kinds of support to patients and their families. HICF volunteers help with such chores as yard work, light housekeeping, shopping, and meal preparation and the group assists families in finding the community health and social services they need to deal with an illness.
