Hatteras Designs was formed in 1999 by its two partners to provide consulting and internet services to businesses and other organizations in eastern North Carolina with a special focus on the Outer Banks region.  With offices in Hatteras and Nags Head, we are easily accessible to the entire Outer Banks business community.  The firm is owned and operated by its two partners, Linwood I. (“Buddy”) Swain and James E. (“Jim”) Boyd. Mr. Swain holds a BS in Biology from UNC in addition to a Masters from Duke.  He taught biology at both high school and college levels before retiring in 1998 after 35 years. He is an accomplished writer, photographer and stained glass artist in addition to his responsibilities as Creative Director for the firm.  Buddy’s short stories about summers with his grandparents in Hatteras in the 40’s and 50’s are regularly published in the Island Breeze. Mr. Boyd holds a BS in Engineering from NC State and is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina.  He relocated to the Outer Banks from Charlotte, NC in 1999 after a 24 year year career in business consulting and industrial products, having served the past 10 years as President of a $185 million company with 2,200 employees. As Technical Director of Hatteras Designs, he provides a strong base in the application of internet technology to help grow our clients' businesses.  Jim is the holder of one United States patent.
